Cooling Tower Terminology or Cooling tower water parameter.

 Cooling Tower:

Terminology of Cooling Tower:

Below are the most important parameters of cooling tower which are affecting the cooling tower efficiency:-

  • Range
  • Approach
  • Wet Bulb temperature
  • COC (Cycle of Concentration)
  • Evaporation loss
  • Drift loss
  • Blow Down
  • Makeup water
  • TDC
  • Hardness

Range: Range is defined as the temperature difference between the cooling tower inlet temperature to the cooling tower outlet temperature. Range is also known as delta-T of cooling tower.

Approach: Approach is defined as the temperature difference between the temperature of the cooling water leaving the tower and the wet-bulb temperature of the air entering in cooling tower. Maintaining of the approach define the running temperature range of the cooling tower and approach is an crucial point in cooling tower.

Wet Bulb temperature of Cooling tower: Wet bulb temperature is a crucial factor withinside the cycles of cooling towers cooling process. Wet bulb temperature means  the minimum bottom temperature at which water can evaporate into the air till it`s saturated.

Cycle of Concentration: Cycle of concentration is the ratio of total dissolved solids available in feed water to the total dissolved solids available in circulation water which circulate through cooling tower. Cycle of concentration defines the how often we need to make-up the fresh water in cooling tower.

Evaporation loss: During the operation of cooling tower heat exchange done between hot water and air while small water particle generate and evaporate with air.

Drift Loss: Drift loss is defined as the water entrained withinside the air drift and released into the surrounding atmosphere. Drift loss does now no longer encompass water misplaced through evaporation. Pre-planned tower design can decrease the drift loss.

Blow Down: Blow down water define the water which need to drain at a fixed interval from cooling tower bottom to remove suspended particles are gathered at bottom of cooling tower. Blow down given to avoid the sudden increase in TDS and Hardness of cooling water.

Make-up Water: Fresh water need to add in cooling tower continuously to cover the water losses happened due evaporation, drift and blow down.

Evaporation Loss= 1.2% to 1.7% of the cooling water flow.

Drift Loss= 0.04% to 0.005% of the cooling water flow.

Blow Down= 0.3% to 0.5% of the cooling water flow.

Make-up water = Evaporation Loss+ Drift loss+ Blow Down.

How to control Temperature and Humidity in Air Handling Unit

How to control Temperature and Humidity in Air Handling Unit Overview Air Handling unit is a system used to supply temperature and Humidity controlled filtered air to the cleanroom. For air filtration various types of filters are used in AHU. And for temperature and Humidity controlling cooling and heating coils are provided in AHU. Goals Control the temperature of air used in the cleanroom  Control the humidity of air used in cleanroom  Air filters Specifications    The air Handling unit consists of Air filter  Cooling coil Heating coil Air blower HEPA Filter  Controlling of Temperature and Humidity  By Cooling Method  The cooling coil recirculates the chilled water having temperatures between 4°C to 6°C. This chilled water comes from the Chiller through centrifugal pumps. When we start the Air Handling unit blowers sucks the air through the pre filters of the air Handling unit. When blowers sucks air, it passes through the cooling co...

HVAC Validation In pharma Industries

HVAC VALIDATION As per ISO guidelines for HVAC validation. In HVAC Validation  below points are determined and validated that they are in within range as per designed which will pass the respective ISO standard class acceptance criteria. 1)Air velocity and CFM calculation 2)Air changes per hour 3) Installed filter leakage test 4) HEPA filter integrity test 5)Air flow pattern test or smoke test 6)Partical count test 7)Total variable count 8) Temperatur and pressure monitoring 9) Temperature and Humidity recovery test 10) Fresh air calculation All this points are determined recorded in documents. All this validation process done by validation contractors under observation of respective company Engineer. 1) Air velocity and CFM calculation :-   - Scan the area of the HEPA filter with probe of anemometer 6 inches from the filter face. - For accurate velocity take the velocity of air at five place of filters ( Four corners and centre of filter) - Record the air velocity i...

Why ice forms at cooling coil and Suction line in Refrigeration system

Why ice forms at cooling coil and Suction line in Refrigeration system       it's all about the relationship between a temperature and pressure and how the pressure affect the boiling point of the refrigerant. As the pressure of refrigerant increases then the temperature and boiling point also increases,  when pressure decreased temperature and boiling point also decreases. Refrigeration and air conditioning systems take use of it to cool the air or liquid.   Normal Refrigeration System      In normal refrigeration system compressor compresses the refrigerant which causes the increase in pressure and temperature of refrigerant. The hot vapour refrigerant pass through the condenser in condenser heat exchange happens and refrigerant condensate into liquid forms. Before entering in the evaporator high pressure liquid refrigerant pass through the expansion of valve. The actual device used depends on the Refrigeration system but capillary t...
