COP of Chiller or Efficiency Of Process Chiller

Efficiency of Process Chiller

  Chiller is a machine that removes heat from water or air via vapor-compression cycle or vapor-absorption cycle.This cooled water or air further used for cooing purpose for equipment or for Chillers are widely used in every field like in industry, commerce and in building air conditioning.Air conditioning and chillers both are the heat pumps, chiller uses water for heat exchange media and air conditioning uses air . After the heat exchange process waste heat exhausted in ambient or recovered it for heating purpose.

    Chillers efficiency depends on the energy consumed by the chiller and cooling delivered by the chiller in that consumed energy.The chiller efficiency always measured in "COP" which stands for

Coefficient Of Performance.

   Coefficient of performance is just simple, it is the ratio of refrigeration effect produced by the chiller to the energy consumed by the chiller to produce that refrigeration effect.Both units are used in Kw.

  Take a example for calculations of Chiller Efficiency, the Chiller which is producing cooling effects of 1250 kw/h or 42,65,177.5 in a metric unit. The electrical energy required to produce that effect is 230 kw, then the COP of Chiller is,

   COP =(Cooling effects produced by chiller)÷Electrical Energy required

   COP= 1250÷230
COP=4.5

  This means that the 4.5 kw of Refrigeration effect is produced in a 1kw of electrical energy input.

Factors Affecting on Chiller Efficiency

  •     For reducing Chiller efficiency we need to know the purpose of Chiller is that the remove heat from the water or air which is further used for the cooling or chilling purpose. The main power consumption source in Chiller is compressor which lift the refrigerant through system from low pressure and temperatures to high pressure and temperature refrigerant from evaporator to Condenser. That's why our compressor should be in proper working conditions that means time to time servicing for compressor required. Which will keep your compressor efficient working.
  •   Another factors Affecting on Chiller efficiency is the cooling water temperature comes from cooling tower to Chillers Condenser. If your cooling water temperature will not in its regular working range, then it will produce high Discharge pressure from compressor which will affect on the efficiency of Chiller.
  • Chiller Condenser and evaporator should be cleaned time to time for proper heat exchange. Dirty Condenser and evaporator will produce excessive load on compressor to produce required cooling effects. That leads Chiller to consume more electrical power to produce required Refrigeration effects.

How to control Temperature and Humidity in Air Handling Unit

  How to control Temperature and Humidity in Air Handling Unit Overview Air Handling unit is a system used to supply temperature and Humidity controlled filtered air to the cleanroom. For air filtration various types of filters are used in AHU. And for temperature and Humidity controlling cooling and heating coils are provided in AHU. Goals Control the temperature of air used in the cleanroom  Control the humidity of air used in cleanroom  Air filters Specifications    The air Handling unit consists of Air filter  Cooling coil Heating coil Air blower HEPA Filter  Controlling of Temperature and Humidity  By Cooling Method  The cooling coil recirculates the chilled water having temperatures between 4°C to 6°C. This chilled water comes from the Chiller through centrifugal pumps. When we start the Air Handling unit blowers sucks the air through the pre filters of the air Handling unit. When blowers sucks air, it passes through the cooling co...

AIR FLOW, AIR VELOCITY, ACPH, AHU CAPACITY

Air Changes per Hour AIR VELOCITY AND ACPH OF ROOM OR AREA   Procedure to be followed: Air Velocity Measurement and Calculation of Air Changes: Objective : To demonstrate  that the   air system is balanced and capable of delivering air velocities and providing number of air changes per hour in the respective rooms as   per requirement. Equipment to be used: Hotwire Anemometer or capture Hood Pre Requisite: Air Volumes through supply and return grills and filters should be adjusted as per the design requirement of Air Change Rate and Differential Pressure. Test Method : Ensure that the Supply blower of the AHU is "ON" prior to the start of the observations. For compliance of air change rate, velocity to be measured at 5   different locations to below the each terminal or Grill (Four Corners and center) with the help of calibrated Anemometer. Calculate the   average  velocity of the air coming from Plenum HEPA filter / supply air grill. Calculate the air...

Why ice forms at cooling coil and Suction line in Refrigeration system

 Why ice forms at cooling coil and Suction line in Refrigeration system       it's all about the relationship between a temperature and pressure and how the pressure affect the boiling point of the refrigerant. As the pressure of refrigerant increases then the temperature and boiling point also increases,  when pressure decreased temperature and boiling point also decreases. Refrigeration and air conditioning systems take use of it to cool the air or liquid.   Normal Refrigeration System      In normal refrigeration system compressor compresses the refrigerant which causes the increase in pressure and temperature of refrigerant. The hot vapour refrigerant pass through the condenser in condenser heat exchange happens and refrigerant condensate into liquid forms.Before entering in the evaporator high pressure liquid refrigerant pass through the expansion of valve. The actual device used depends on the Refrigeration system but capillary t...
